WoW Classic guide · Updated
Your Classic addons on every PC.
Move your Classic UI to a laptop, or give the guild the same addon set for raid night. SyncCrate copies the AddOns and WTF folders between PCs, for every Classic flavor and older standalone clients, and after the first time only what changed.

// 01 Why
Why Classic addons are fiddly to move
Every WoW Classic flavor has its own install folder and its own addons. An addon has to be built for that flavor's game version, and a copy made for retail or a different Classic version is either listed as out of date or doesn't load at all.
Older standalone clients (1.12, 2.4.3, 3.3.5) make it harder. Addons for them are usually backported versions from GitHub, and the folder name has to match the addon's .toc file, so a zip extracted as SomeAddon-master quietly never shows up. Once the set finally works on one PC, nobody wants to hunt it down again for the second PC or for every guildmate.
SyncCrate copies the working folders from one PC to the others. Files are compared by content, only the differences are copied, and you see the list before anything changes.

// 03 How it works
Sync WoW Classic in three steps
Install and add the game
Install SyncCrate on every PC and add WoW Classic in the Game Browser. Its folder is found automatically.
One PC hosts
The PC with the setup everyone should have clicks Start Hosting. The others pick it under Scan for Hosts on the same network, or paste its join code from anywhere.
Compare and sync
Check the list of new, changed and conflicting files, then Sync Now. Only the files that differ are copied, PC to PC.
TipLog out or close WoW before you sync. The game writes addon settings to WTF on logout, and SyncCrate warns you if it's still running.
// 04 Common problems
When WoW Classic mods don't match
Addons for the wrong version
An addon downloaded for retail or another Classic flavor may show up as out of date in the AddOns list, throw Lua errors, or not load.
Friends get the host's working set for the same flavor, so everyone runs addons that are known to work on that client.
Addon folder named wrong
WoW only loads an addon when its folder has the same name as its
.tocfile. Extracted GitHub zips and nested folders are the usual reason an addon for an older client is missing in game.SyncCrate copies the host's folder layout exactly, so an addon that loads on the host loads on the other PC.
Guild on different boss mod versions
Raid addons share timers and warnings between players, and a raider on an old version misses alerts or sees different ones.
The raid leader hosts with only AddOns allowed, and everyone syncs the same versions before the pull.
Rebuilding a UI on a new PC
The addons are quick to reinstall. The bars, frames and profiles they keep in
WTFare what take hours.Sync AddOns and WTF from the old PC and log in with the UI exactly as you left it.
// 05 WoW Classic
Good to know
- Each flavor is its own game in SyncCrate. WoW Classic (
_classic_) and WoW Classic Era (_classic_era_) are found automatically. WoW Vanilla (1.12), WoW TBC (2.4.3) and WoW WoTLK (3.3.5) are for older standalone clients: point SyncCrate at the client's folder once. - WTF is personal. Sync it between your own PCs. When sharing with friends, let the host keep it private and share only AddOns.
Config.wtfis never copied. - Addons run code.
.luafiles are flagged before they sync, and nothing changes until you approve the list. Only sync with people you trust. - Retail WoW has its own page: [World of Warcraft](world-of-warcraft).
// FAQ
WoW Classic questions
Where are WoW Classic addons installed?
In the flavor's folder inside World of Warcraft: _classic_/Interface/AddOns for Classic and _classic_era_/Interface/AddOns for Classic Era, with settings in the WTF folder next to it. Older standalone clients use Interface/AddOns and WTF in the client's own folder.
Does it work with a 3.3.5 or 1.12 client?
Yes. Add WoW WoTLK (3.3.5), WoW TBC (2.4.3) or WoW Vanilla (1.12) and set the client's folder in Settings. SyncCrate syncs its AddOns and WTF folders like any other game. It doesn't copy the client itself.
Can I copy my retail addons to Classic?
Not as a sync: retail and each Classic flavor are separate games in SyncCrate, because most addons need a build for the game version they run on. Many popular addons ship Classic versions; install those on the host and sync them.
Will it break my addon manager?
No. Managers like CurseForge or WowUp may show synced addons as installed outside the manager until they rescan, but the files are the same ones the manager would put there.
