// 01 Why
Why moving a modded Spire setup is fiddly
Slay the Spire keeps three things apart: the run you're in, your profiles with unlocks and stats, and the mods. Mods are .jar files loaded by ModTheSpire, and most of them need BaseMod or StSLib too, so a friend who wants your modded characters needs the whole set in matching versions.
Workshop mods are easy to subscribe to. Jars you downloaded yourself, or a specific version that works with the rest of your list, have to be copied by hand into the game's mods folder.
SyncCrate syncs the game's mods, saves and preferences folders directly between PCs. Files are compared by content, only the differences are copied, and you see the list before anything changes.

// 03 How it works
Sync Slay the Spire in three steps
Install and add the game
Install SyncCrate on every PC and add Slay the Spire in the Game Browser. Its folder is found automatically.
One PC hosts
The PC with the setup everyone should have clicks Start Hosting. The others pick it under Scan for Hosts on the same network, or paste its join code from anywhere.
Compare and sync
Check the list of new, changed and conflicting files, then Sync Now. Only the files that differ are copied, PC to PC.
TipModTheSpire itself has to be installed on each PC (from the Workshop, or as a jar next to the game). SyncCrate syncs the mod jars in the mods folder.
// 04 Common problems
When Slay the Spire mods don't match
A mod needs a library you don't have
Most content mods depend on BaseMod, and many also on StSLib or other libraries. Missing one means ModTheSpire won't launch the mod.
The libraries sit in the same
modsfolder as the mods, so they arrive together.Unlocks stuck on the old PC
Starting on a new PC can mean playing through the unlocks and ascension levels again.
Sync the
preferencesfolder and your profiles and progress come along.Mod versions that don't fit together
Mods and their libraries update separately, and a jar from one month can break against a library from another.
Syncing copies the host's exact jars, so the other PC runs the combination that already works.
Jars run code
Every Slay the Spire mod is a Java
.jarthat runs with the game..jarfiles are flagged before they sync, and nothing changes until you approve the list. Only sync with people you trust.
// 05 Slay the Spire
Good to know
- Steam Workshop mods aren't synced. Steam keeps them outside the game folder, so friends subscribe to the same Workshop items. Jars in the
modsfolder sync. - Modded runs need the same mods. A run saved with a modded character only continues where that mod is installed.
- Steam Cloud may also sync your progress between your own PCs. SyncCrate is for other people's PCs, or for mods Steam doesn't handle.

Install SyncCrate on both, host on the PC with your progress, join from the other and Compare & Sync the preferences and saves folders. Close the game on the receiving PC first.
Where do Slay the Spire mods go?
In the mods folder inside the game's install folder, where ModTheSpire looks for them. Workshop mods are loaded from Steam's folder instead.
Does it sync Workshop mods?
No. Steam keeps Workshop mods in its own folder, so everyone subscribes to the same ones. SyncCrate syncs jars in the game's mods folder.
Can I share my modded characters with a friend?
Yes. Host with your mods folder and your friend syncs it, libraries included. They still need ModTheSpire installed once.
