// 01 Why

Why sharing modded Celeste takes a while

Modded Celeste runs on Everest, and the big collab maps come with a long list of helper mods they depend on, each in a specific version. Getting a friend the same setup for racing each other or playing together on CelesteNet means installing every map and dependency again.

Saves are tied to the mods too: a save with progress in modded maps only makes sense with those maps installed.

SyncCrate copies the Mods folder and the saves from one PC to another. Files are compared by content, only the differences are copied, and you see the list before anything changes.

Built in for Celeste

  • Script warnings. .dll files run code on your PC, so they're flagged for you to review before they sync.
  • Turn mods on and off. Disabled mods move to a _Disabled folder the game doesn't load.
  • Game-running warning. SyncCrate warns you before syncing while Celeste is still open.
  • Undo and history. Undo the last sync in one click, and put back any single file a sync replaced or deleted.

// 03 How it works

Sync Celeste in three steps

  1. Install and add the game

    Install SyncCrate on every PC and add Celeste in the Game Browser. Its folder is found automatically.

  2. One PC hosts

    The PC with the setup everyone should have clicks Start Hosting. The others pick it under Scan for Hosts on the same network, or paste its join code from anywhere.

  3. Compare and sync

    Check the list of new, changed and conflicting files, then Sync Now. Only the files that differ are copied, PC to PC.

TipEvery PC needs Everest installed once, with Olympus or the Everest installer. SyncCrate copies the mods and saves, not Everest itself.

// 04 Common problems

When Celeste mods don't match

  • A collab map without its dependencies

    Collab maps need helper mods, and a missing or outdated one stops the map from loading.

    The whole Mods folder syncs from the host, dependencies included, in the same versions.

  • Progress on another PC

    Your saves, with every golden strawberry, are on the PC you played on.

    Saves sync too, so you can continue on another PC.

  • Mods run code

    Many Everest helper mods contain code that runs with the game.

    Nothing changes until you approve the list of files. Only sync with people you trust.

Good to know

  • Steam's cloud saves also cover your own PCs. The Saves folder in SyncCrate is for sharing with a friend, or for copies without Steam Cloud.
  • Only Mods and Saves sync. Everest and the game itself stay each player's own.
